More “we know better than you” idiocy from “experts” at the Department of Agriculture have determined that serfs kids only need 850 calories for lunch. The usual “on size fits all” mentality of bureaucrats doesn’t take into account student athletes, fast-growing kids, kids with high metabolisms, or any other common-sensical criteria for their caloric restrictions on school meals. This has prompted an appropriate backlash by students, parents, and folks that are tired of shrill shrews like the First Lady trying to slim our kids down.

Additionally, the USDA is pushing foods that are unfamiliar or unpopular, then blaming students for their hunger.

“One thing I think we need to keep in mind as kids say they’re still hungry is that many children aren’t used to eating fruits and vegetables at home, much less at school. So it’s a change in what they are eating. If they are still hungry, it’s that they are not eating all the food that’s being offered,” said USDA Deputy Undersecretary Janey Thornton, channeling every busybody in history.

Savvy kids are showing the power of the market and entrepreneurial spirit by creating black markets in illicit foods. It should be interesting to see how these Progressives handle this trade in under-the-table food. My guess is suspensions and police action involving asset forfeitures. Maybe they could call them domestic terrorists, while they’re at it.
