This is the usual case in the intelligence community — it doesn’t matter how many warnings and indicators you have, if the policymakers don’t want to act on the information, nothing (good) will happen. Reason brings us a story on how the State Department has finally admitted that there was no video-maddened protests outside the consulate in the Libyan city prior to the 9/11 attacks, and that even better ABC relates,
Eric Nordstrom, the former Regional Security Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Libya, has told congressional investigators that security at the U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya, was “inappropriately low” – and believed that State Department officials stood in the way of his attempts to change that.
Worse, the State Department then blocked FBI efforts to investigate the attack in the aftermath, and even once the agents were on site, they only had 12 hours to do a forensic workup of the consulate. That call at 3am, it just keeps ringing, doesn’t it?
Here’s the situation encapsulated:
So to recap: It wasn’t the video — it was a concerted, coordinated al-Qaida assault timed to commemorate 9/11. State and the administration knew there was a danger and not only did nothing, but seemed determined to make sure the attacks would be successful. They openly, brazenly lied to the American people.
It’s time for this president to go.
