That might be what they are claiming the policy is for, but it would be short-sighted and ineffective since soldiers could simply purchase new ones. The real purpose, to invade their privacy — even for those living off-post (hey…the spouses aren’t military members; the DoD has no authority to restrict their 2nd amendment rights off post) — and disarm a group the administration views as a “terrorist threat” because of 1) their adherence to their oath of office [how quaint!], and 2) they’re tired of fighting useless wars for people that cannot be reformed, modernized, and who do not appreciate our sacrifice [that's not just the Afghani, but a bunch of heathens in the District of Columbia.]
