It took Progressives 13 years to realize the folly of the 18th Amendment (Prohibition) and repeal it. How much money, how many “isolated incidents” of police violence or drug-gang violence, and how much intrusion into our lives do we have to put up with before we realize that it’s not working.
So enough. Everything stupid you can do on drugs — murder, robbery, etc. — is a crime when you’re sober; simply do not allow inebriation as a defense from prosecution. So instead of trying to legislate morality or personal behavior, let’s try either treating addiction as a medical/psychological condition.
