Okay…this has been a long-time “truism” that is completely false: that Rutherford B Hayes declared the telephone would never go anywhere. Strange, since he was the president that installed the damned things!
But what do you expect from the Democrats? They’re still pissed off over his stealing the election of ’76 from Tilden. (The Senate had to break the tie. The Gore/Bush tiff and subsequent four years of bad behavior on the part of Democrats? — RBH and Sam Tilden were doing 124 years earlier. The Dems even rioted during a speech at West Point.)
