The battle over gun control is getting uglier. A leaked Department of Justice memo regarding the efficacy of an “assault weapons” ban had some interesting assessments: 1) Gun buybacks are ineffective, 2) Magazine restrictions will not work without stopping all manufacture, importation, and eliminating possession (which would require the kind of intrusive warrantless searches that are currently popular in Democrat-sponsored bills. 3) Most illegal guns do not come from low-regulation states, but from local illicit suppliers, 4) “Since assault weapons are not a major contributor to US gun homicide and the existing stock of guns is large, an assault weapon ban is unlikely to have an impact on gun violence. If coupled with a gun buyback and no exemptions then it could be effective…” That would require the confiscation of said weapons. What do you think the chances are you get paid the fair market value..? 5) Gun registration is nearly impossible to pull off, and has only one purpose — improving confiscation.

There are a few other things to consider: some folks in the Progressive fold have realized a little problem with gun control — it unfairly targets minorities (which anyone familiar with history — or live in Chicago, Los Angeles, and DC — could tell you.)

And here’s the part the political class is really worried about — it’s the reason they are pushing harder at the state level now for gun control with unconstitutional warrantless search provisions to confiscate, and it’s a point I’ve made a few times over the past few months:

Manufacturers were running full-bore, but couldn’t come close to keeping up with market demand.

It wasn’t just the AR-15s, the AK-pattern rifles, the M1As, and the FALs that were sold out. It really hit me when I realized that the World War-era M1 Garands, M1 carbines, and Enfield .303s were gone, along with every last shell. Ubiquitous Mosin-Nagants—of which every gun store always seems to have 10-20—were gone. So was their ammo. Only a dust free space marked their passing. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Every weapon of military utility designed within the past 100+ years was gone.

This isn’t a society stocking up on certain guns because they fear they may be banned. This is a society preparing for war.

The political class is done hiding what they are. They are locking people up in record numbers for victimless crimes. They are using drug war-inspired asset forfeiture laws to openly steal from the People. They have legislated (and in the case of Lindsay Graham, giddily) that the military can police American streets and arrest and detain Americans indefinitely without due process or legal recourse. They have wasted over $16 trillion dollars, and want even more of your money. They’re coming for your IRAs and 401k’s next — there’s another $19 trillion for their appetites. They send our people to war without a plan for victory, then get in bed with the local representatives of the groups we are fighting. They’re coming for your fair use of products you buy with copyright and IP laws. They’re demanding you buy health insurance from their politically connected backers. They’re driving up the cost of your food and fuel.

And now they want you disarmed. Because a disarmed people is a helpless people.

Americans know this and are buying guns in record numbers because we’re ready for that last step…the one where they decide to wage war on their own people to rob and enslave us to their wil..

I don’t think this is going to go quite as our would-be masters expect.
