The post-contract firings are upon the Chicago School District, perhaps one of the worst “educational” entities in the nation. 500 teachers were binned, and 50 elementary schools closed after the Board of Education voted unanimously for the action. The Chicago Teachers Union rolled out President Karen Lewis to complain about the timing of the firings, and make the usual threats about not hiring back teachers with seniority (no matter how terrible that teacher might be.)

If Karen Lewis is so worried about the teachers, maybe she can pony up some of her $300,000/year salary (well earned if you are upper tier school administration, not so much if you are an actual teacher) to support them while they find work. Judging from her girth, she can afford to cut back a bit.
