This one comes from super-pussy New Mexico State Representative Mary Helen Garcia (a Democrat, of course), who wanted to pass a bill “for the children” that would criminalize any speech —  including ‘harsh speech directed at journalists, academics, celebrities, politicians, and the like, if the speech results in “substantial emotional distress.” ‘

By the way, Mary “Too Stupid to Be in Office” Garcia, the Supreme Court already found in Hustler Magazine v Falwell  that a suit of this kind was only possible in cases of “defamatory falsehood … made with knowledge that it was false or with reckless disregard of whether it was false or not.” Hell, the decision was even unanimous, saying “Were we to hold otherwise, there can be little doubt that political cartoonists and satirists would be subjected to damages awards without any showing that their work falsely defamed its subject.”

So, suck failure, Mary, and go be unhappy about what an awful person you are somewhere else.

(You see what I did there..?)
